What Is Independent Studios?

Indep Studios is an office and community resource for creatives in Melbourne. We help freelancers and start-ups from a variety of industries such as film and TV, graphic design, architects, journalism, and website professionals work and create efficiently.

Freelancers, small businesses and production teams work on extremely tight timelines and need their office space to be in sync with challenges provided by their work. This is where we step in. Our onsite management makes sure your working space is organised to suit your needs so you can be your best, productive self.

Film production teams like to use the studio as a preproduction and production space due to its location in Prahran with proximity to Chapel Street’s shooting locations. Production teams tend to reside in the South East suburbs such as Prahran, Windsor, St Kilda and South Yarra. Quick access to the Eastern suburbs such as Collingwood via Punt Road is a bonus.

What are creative cowork spaces?

Creative cowork spaces are office and studio spaces specifically designed for creative professionals. They maintain a balance between being social and connected while also allowing for privacy and professionalism. The cowork spaces at Indep Studios are designed to allow freelancers, small businesses and start-ups to collaborate in a creative environment that enables teams to work together effectively.

At Indep Studios we have more than 100 desks in various combinations split across two beautiful office levels allowing teams to collaborate or retreat and work privately. The main focus of our studio is for creative professionals, start-ups and freelancers to have a creative space purpose-built for creative industries where professionals from a wide variety of backgrounds are under the same roof.

Depending on individual budgets, freelancers can choose a private, dedicated work space or access hot desking. Hot desks allow for work and collaboration without the cost of a full-time space.

What is hot desking at Indep Studios?

Hot desking at Indep Studios is a great and flexible way for freelancers, writers and creative professionals to have access to a fully equipped office on demand. Hot desks allow professionals to come into the studio and work for the day with access to a desk, fully equipped kitchen, internet and phone, and become immersed in a highly productive, creative and professional working environment. Hot desking at Indep Studios is ideal for working professionals who don’t need a full time office, but still require the resources of a professional environment and want to connect with other creatives.

Located in Prahran, just 8 minutes from the Melbourne CBD via train on the Sandringham line and around the corner from Prahran station, hot desks at Indep Studios are a convenient and practical option for short term desk rental, or when you just need to rent an office for a day.

If I have a photo shoot can I get a park?

Thankfully we are one of the few offices to have onsite, non personal car parking which means that you can access a car park at Indep Studios for your most important production or shoot days.

All our car parks have high ceilings to allow production vehicles and 4WD’s to park undercover.

Some of our parks are free to allow for quick crew, director, or equipment drop offs. Other car parks are bookable at reasonable rates to allow for a dedicated booking.

  • Virtual Office
    $80 per month ex gst
    • Get your new business idea off the ground but work from home or offsite.
    • Provision of a physical address for your use on website, email and collateral
    • Includes invitations to community events and networking opportunities.
    • Access to boardtable at our standard published rates less member discount, once Covidsafe workplace conditions allow.
    • Access to our phone services - $25 landline diverted to your mobile or email
    • Access to reception alerts -  mail receipt & alerts ($20 pcm <20 items)
  • FREELANCER DESK
    $385 per month ex gst
    • Headquarters For Your Business
    • Provision of a flexi desk - setup your office cost-effectively but still possibly work from the home studio or a remote client site for 1-3 days per week.  Access M-F 9am - 5pm.
    • Includes fibre based internet, wifi usage - unlimited downloads.
    • Includes use of some prebooked meeting room time (2hours per mth) to enable client meetings.
    • Includes access to onsite tea, coffee facilities.
    • Includes invitations to community events and networking opportunities.
    • Access to boardtable at our standard published rates less member discount.
    • Access to kitchen facilities at hot desk rate less member discount.
    • Access to storage options - long term, samples, lockers or bike at member rates
    • Access to office address, mail receipt, and general reception services at member rates.
    • Access to our phone services - $25 landline diverted to your mobile or email (diversion costs ~ $5pm)
  • Dedicated Desk
    $500 per month ex gst
    • Use the office as dedicated resource for your business growth
    • Provision of a desk dedicated to your operation (only you can sit there),  good storage within reach, space for 2-3 monitors and an environment focused on work & clients.
    • Includes fibre based internet, wifi usage - unlimited downloads.
    • Includes use of boardtable for client meetings, unlimited meeting room time to enable supplier, collaborator or client meetings.
    • Includes access to full kitchen, fridges, expresso coffee machine, freshly ground coffee, tea, sandwich makers, microwaves - enough to make breakfast, lunch or dinner.
    • Includes invitations to community events and networking opportunities.
    • Includes storage options - long term, samples, lockers or bike.
    • Access to locked storage options at member rates.
    • Includes use of office address, mail receipt, and general reception services
    • Access phone services - option additional $25pm landline diverted to your mobile or email.
    • Access for late night working - option - additional $50pm -eg overseas HQ or offices.
  • Dedicated Team Workspaces
    $1500 pm ex gst (from..)
    • Bring your business to new level of growth using low admin, low cost using our team spaces.
    • Provision of a dedicated and separated workspace  (only you and your team can sit there),  good storage within reach, good desk size, lots of light and an environment focused on work & clients.
    • Includes fibre based internet, wifi usage - unlimited downloads. With options to access private networks, WAN's, eth, NAS if this makes it easier for you.
    • Includes use of boardtable for client and team meetings, unlimited meeting room time to enable supplier, collaborator or client meetings.
    • Includes access to full kitchen, fridges, expresso coffee machine, freshly ground coffee, tea, sandwich makers, microwaves - enough to make breakfast, lunch or dinner.
    • Includes invitations to community events and networking opportunities.
    • Includes storage options - long term, samples, lockers or bike.
    • Access to locked storage options at member rates.
    • Includes use of office address, mail receipt, and general reception services
    • Access to our phone services - $25 landline diverted to your mobile or email.
    • Full access for late night working with overseas HQ or offices. Split access permissions for different members of the team as required.
    • Price above is for our basic startup team space.  Prices are generally bundled into groups of 2,4,6 with volume discounts applied. $400 pp pm is for a sample 4 person workspace.  Ask us if our basic team space for $1500 (4pax) is available, or our much loved sunroom space $2500 for 5 pax min. (all ex gst) or  private offices if your team requires this type of environment.
